Vehicle

2013 Yukon XL:

I really like how this vehicle drives, the interior and all of its function. I bought the Yukon last year. It still needs some new tires and a lift put on it to get in and out of certain places without dragging.

This vehicle is my "kids" vehicle in that it has the passenger capacity for my family. Also, it is 4WD and can carry canoes, kayaks and other things on the roof or on the trailer hitch.

The 6.0 liter engine gives the vehicle great towing capacity and plenty of power both on the interstate, as well as when offroad. When offroad - speed isn't the goal, but having plenty of both torque and horsepower is useful when e.g. slowly crawling up a rocky road or terrain or when offroad in mud or river gravel.

For top rack I have Yakima mounts mounted to the factory roof rails with Yakima cross bar.

To haul my kayak I prefer to use the Yakima (find name). I have tried the J cradles and they are ok but do not hold as many kayaks.

2003 GMC Sierra Z71

I have owned this truck since new. This truck drives almost as good now as it did new. It does need tie rods but as of the time of this writing drives better than the Yukon - which could do for an alignment soon.

GMC really did well with this year model. I briefly owned a 2014 Lexus RDX and it drove no better than this truck and also while it did have a modern graphic interface for radio etc, the interior was otherwise not any better and the heated seats in my truck are better with better options and the 4WD system is way better with the Auto function.

I don't understand why I wouldn't have this same feature in my newer Yukon, but the 4WD in this 2003 GMC is in my opinion way better, more functional and I prefer it on wet roads. In the Yukon, I can't tell if/when we are ever in the same kind of "4WD"... I probably just need more education on this subject, but in my opinion I prefer the offroad ability of the '03 to the Yukon.
